As Christmas 2011 draws to an end and we were reminded of the greatest gift given to mankind; we have also been reminded of one of the greatest gifts we are given in the local church… VOLUNTEERS.
Church is not about a building, it is not about a weekly ritual and it sure is NOT an obligation. Talk about counting our blessings because we serve in a place that wants to love and maximize people!
Would Prairie Heights be here if it wasn’t for volunteers? Absolutely NOT!
I’d like to share a story with you regarding a volunteer who learned she was soon going to be asked to take on a leadership role at PHCC. Janelle and I share an office at the Ministry Center (MC) and we have this wonderful white board system to keep track of our tasks. We also use our white boards to map out different ministry teams and people associated with them. As Janelle is building the Welcome Center team, she started writing names of possible volunteers and leaders on her board. On a Friday evening, Nichole came out to the MC for life group and ended up chit chatting in our office for awhile. During her time in the office, she casually asked, “is that my name on the board?” I hesitated and asked, “have you spoken with Janelle yet?” Nichole said, “no”. I then smiled and waited a second longer to respond. Before I could respond, Nichole piped in and said… “well, if it is.. I’ll do it.” I smiled and said “GREAT! I’ll let Janelle know.”
WOW! Our volunteers are by far THE BEST… we have numerous individuals who are willing to do whatever it takes to reach more people for Christ. Nichole didn’t ask, “well, what do I have to do?”… she said, “well, if it is…I’ll do it.” She taught me a great lesson that evening. It’s not about the task, it’s about our personal journey with Christ and when we are asked to serve.. in whatever way.. there is no reason to question because Christ has laid out our plans, all we have to say is: “I’ll do it!”
Thank you Nichole and our hundreds of volunteers at PHCC for saying “I’ll do it!”
