Romans 12:18 says, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” This verse does not say it depends on how someone is going to respond to us or a situation. It say it depends on us! How we live our lives. How we listen to what God is teaching us.
Why does God have such high standards for our relationships? Because He takes them very seriously and He is committed to relationships. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
How do we forgive others? Don’t pretend the hurt doesn’t exist. Ask God to reveal the hurt and then pray for the person you are trying to forgive. The result of this is God replaces that hurt with His peace!
Do you need to make amends to someone you have hurt? Make a list of those you have harmed and what you did. Think about how you would like someone to make amends to you. Write letters, tell them in person, tell it to God and then get rid of it!
Don’t forget one of the most important things! Forgiving yourself! “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17 Spend some time with God this week. Memorize one of these verses. Focus on the forgiveness God has given to each one of us.
Forgiviness does not change the past but it does enlarge the future!
