Yesterday we finished up “Phase 1” of our relationslips series. We have now covered 4 basics – trust, authenticity, compatibility, and communication. There are 2 factors that block healthy communication: fear and pride. These are the same 2 factors that stop us from fully surrendering our lives to Jesus Christ. What is God’s antidote to fear? “Perfect love drives out fear.” So, which is greater in your life, your love for God or your fear? What consumes you? Which do you spend more time and energy on: worshipping God through prayer, serving others, reading the Bible, thinking about God’s character or dwelling on your fears?
I shared 12 words that my father-in-law taught me before I was married that will strengthen our communication and relationships: “I was wrong. I am sorry. Please forgive me. I love you.” We all should use these 12 words more often. If we can’t or don’t? It is because pride gets in the way. The antidote to pride is humility. Humility is thinking about others more often than I think about myself. Humility is giving God glory for the things I am good at. Humility comes from allowing Christ to mold and shape us as a servant like He was.
The next 3 weeks we will look at “Relationslips: Marriage”. Please forward the attached invitation to a friend. We will be at the Courtyard by Marriot in Moorhead this Sunday, March 7th, with services at 9:30 and 11:00.
On March 1st of 2009 I started a year of reading through the Bible. My wife and a number of other people joined me. It was a blast! Last week I finished the Bible and it was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. I bought a $13 Bible at Walmart and I underlined Scripture that God used to form and shape me this last year. Now I have a record of these Scriptures. I am starting again on April 1st. I am going to buy another $13 Bible that I can write in again this next year. If you would like to join me and get a copy of the reading plan just email be back and I will email it to you.
I pray that your heart will hunger and thirst for God and His righteousness this week! See you on Sunday! I am so glad you are a part of my life and church family!
