EASTER SUNDAY RE-CAP:
We had a moving time as we worshipped together on Easter Sunday. The service started with a bang with the Skillet song “Awake and Alive”. I am thankful that the resurrection of Jesus Christ invites me to live a life of purpose and hope. The theme for the service was “Walls” as we looked at walls that we commonly hit in life: career/job/relationship/health/loss/grief. And the one wall we will all hit sooner or later, the mortality wall. We can struggle our way over or around most walls in life but the mortality one has only one solution: salvation through Jesus Christ. It is not through works but by grace through faith and trust. Jesus conquered death and separation from God. And when we receive Christ as our Savior and through His life, death, and resurrection “conquer” the mortality wall Jesus gives us a new perspective, His unlimited resources, and His presence.
At the end of the sermon everyone had a chance to write a prayer request or the words “eternal life” on a sticky note and place it on the walls built on stage. 100s of people came with prayer requests and many people chose eternal life in Christ. It was an incredibly moving experience. I’m keeping it real now, so I will tell you I wasn’t sure how it would go. I grew up in North Dakota so I totally get how “private” we are especially with spiritual issues. But, Jesus is really clear…there will be no cowards in heaven. It is easy to go with the flow and blend in with what everyone else is doing. But, if we want to follow Christ and make a difference in this world there will be many decisions that are not convenient or easy. Christ had to make a bold public sacrifice for us so He taught us in Luke 9:26 “If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory.” After service was over, people were invited to take a prayer request or a changed life sticky note with them to pray for over the next 30 days. This was everyone’s chance to serve and seek God on behalf of someone else. EVERY sticky note was taken home by someone! Wow, was that cool to see! I can’t wait to see how God is going to change our hearts as we pray for someone else and I can’t wait to see some of the ways God will answer those prayers. I am praying for someone who is facing cancer. I keep the sticky note at my desk.
NEW SERIES starts THIS Sunday:
This Sunday we will start service off with Communion as we celebrate Christ’s resurrection and what He did in our lives as we worshipped together on Easter Sunday. I am SO excited to, also, start a new 3-week series on the Bible called TXT. We will use several videos as we look at questions such as: How did we end up with the Bible (the history)? Is the Bible inspired? Is it reliable? Does God use the Bible today to speak to people? Why is it so easy for us to neglect the Bible? How do I read and study the Bible?
Bring your cell phone with you to church as we will be doing some live polling during service the next 3 Sundays.
874 people attended the two services. This is the 2nd highest attendance in the history of Prairie Heights (after the 10th anniversary service the week before!). We are part of something that is very rare around the US. Thank you God!
