Mondays are a fun day at the PHCC office! We are a little weary after Sundays. But as Dustin (our children’s pastor) said this morning “It is always SO worth it!!” Monday morning God began giving me some ideas for a worship service in June and a few other fairly random things so I pulled two of the greatest administrative people (Nicki and Teri) into my office and I started forwarding them emails, giving them items to look into, and explained some hand sketched pictures and charts that they will now put on paper for me. I think they both left my office an hour later with close to 10 things to take care of! I’m afraid it was a little overwhelming to them. Maybe I should have waited until Tuesday!
The problem I have is that I get charged up because ministry and serving in the church is an absolute blast. Yes, it is hard work. 100s of people work very hard at Prairie Heights on Sundays and throughout the week. There is no doubt about it. But God has given us an opportunity to see such visible results! Sunday, someone from the 9:30 service told me she doesn’t have a Bible. I told her we have some free ones at the Welcome Centers, showed her mine and gave her info on a couple of Bibles I recommend. She was so excited. She told me she has been at church the last 5 weeks and is inviting many friends. She said “I just need to get them here once and they will be hooked!” Then she introduced me to a friend who has come with her the last 4 weeks. Soon after that I met someone attending the 11:00 service and she told me she called and talked to me on the phone a month ago. I remembered our conversation. She said she came the Sunday after we talked and has been at church every Sunday since. Then she introduced me to a friend of hers and her friend asked me how to get the cds on parenting. They both told me how much they love to come. Every Sunday God continues painting stories of new faith, revitalized faith, and deeper roots of faith and growth in Christ!
I recently had a young pastor from out-of-town email me. He said he would like to learn more about starting new churches. I talked to him on the phone and invited him to come and learn from all of you! He came last weekend. He sent me an email this afternoon and said “I think it was one of the best weekends I have ever had in ministry. It is awesome to see people excited to be in church and willing to work for the kingdom. Just watching the people in your church was so refreshing…I want to encourage you and say that you and your church are headed in the right direction and God is and will do great things through you. I am excited to see in eternity how many thousands are in heaven because of the ministry of Prairie Heights!! God Bless you Jon!!” Your love for God and for people and your selfless service is making an impact way beyond the FM community.
This Sunday towards the end of the sermon we will have a special time of commitment as we bring suitcases, notes, lives, talents, financial gifts, and pledges as an offering to God. You do not need to buy or bring a suitcase. You do not need to bring a financial gift or pledge for Crank It Up! This is simply an invitation to pray and join God in what He is doing. A pledge is not a bill. It is between you and God. One-time gifts can be given. We are praying that some who have previously made pledges will consider extending their pledge. We are also praying for new pledges. What I do know is that God is in control and He is preparing the way right now for us to meet with Him!
Attention musicians! Are you looking for a place to use your talents to serve God and others? The Kidventure band is looking for musicians (guitar, bass, drums, keyboard) to help lead music with our elementary children. It’s a fun, high-energy environment so if you’re interested in finding out more information stop by the welcome table to talk with Pastor Dustin after service on May 23 and 30.
Have a wonderful week and I look forward to being together on Sunday!
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Each person will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.” Isaiah 30:21 and Isaiah 32:2
God, My ears and my heart are open to your voice. I choose to obey you. May I follow and represent You in such a way that my family and friends are sheltered and encouraged in times of storm. Amen.
