Hello Kidventure Families!
We had a great Sunday with 131 kids in their Kidventure classes on Sunday!! Our preschoolers learned about being thankful to God and our elementary kids talked about self-control, one of the fruits of the spirit. Last night, Monday night, we had a fun time at Pizza Ranch together! I had invited all Kidventure families to join me and the Kidventure staff for dinner at Pizza Ranch. We had about 12 families and 40 people join us for dinner. We gave away lots of candy and I really enjoyed getting to know some of the families of Prairie Heights even better. My prayer is that we can support you in raising your children to know and follow God. Please let us know if there is any way we can be of support to you and your family. Thanks for making Kidventure a priority in your families and we pray that God uses it to strengthen your family relationships and encourage your journey with God.
This week in elementary (K-5th grade), we talked about self-control and how we should think of what God wants us to do before we act. If everyone decided to do whatever they wanted all the time, our world would be very messed up. I’m reminded of King Saul. Whenever I think of him, I don’t picture him as the tall, handsome, first king of Israel (1 Samuel 9). Instead, I see an angry, spear throwing man who had lost the favor the of the Lord (1 Samuel 16:1 and 19). I don’t think that is the legacy he wanted to leave, but because he didn’t exercise self-control, that’s the one he got. So, instead of being like him, we should strive to be like David. When Saul was still king, David was on the run from him. Saul had grown so jealous of David that he wanted to kill him. Eventually, David had two opportunities to kill Saul (1 Samuel 24 and 26). It would have ended the pursuit, and he would have become king. His life would have been way easier! But, David chose not to. He knew that God had placed Saul in authority over him, and it would be disobedient for David to kill him. So, he thought of what God wanted him to do, and then he did it. That’s true self-control!
The preschoolers (3-5 years) spent their time learning all about being thankful to God. Did you know that we can thank God in different ways? In the Bible, David showed his thankfulness by writing Psalms. Psalm 9:1-2 and Psalm 136 are great examples of this. However, not every single person is cut out to write songs. So, how can we each show God that we’re thankful? One way is through simply just saying, “God, I am so thankful for ______.” Another way is using what gifts and talents He has given us for His glory. But, no matter who we are or what we do, we should always remember to thank God. After all, He’s the reason we’re around.
