This week in elementary (K-5th grade) we learned all about how God sometimes calls us to strange places. Just look at the story of the birth of Jesus. Here was the Son of God, the King of kings, who could have been born anywhere at any time to anyone. And yet, he was born in a little town in the middle of nowhere, to a socially outcast couple, in a smelly stable. When it happened, it probably didn’t make a whole lot of sense. Mary and Joseph were probably worried about their child getting sick or sat on by a cow. But because Jesus was born where He was to the parents He had, He got to experience the same situations that we do. In fact, I think if Jesus would have been born in a palace, He would have been too well liked or respected to be crucified. In the end, it was all a part of God’s plan for our salvation. We just never know how the situations God puts us in will work out for good in the end.
To all elementary parents and children: January 9th will be our last Treasure Chest Sunday. So, be sure to remind your child to save up all the coins he or she can until then!
May you remember to follow God’s direction in your life this week. See you Sunday!
